The National Industrial Symbiosis Programme is funded by the EU through its LIFE+ Programme, and delivered free to businesses by the Public Foundation for the Development of the Industry (IFKA) and International Synergies Limited (ISL).

Our mission is the utilization of industrial wastes and other spare resources through the creation of new business opportunities.

Our aim is that Hungarian industrial production, will divert surplus waste from landfills and enable it to be re-utilized through the new business opportunities.

The project aims to build a bridge between the production and processing companies through the recovery and re-use of under utilised resources. The synergies identified will be promoted through the programme as examples of good practice. Interested companies are welcome to join the programme through our free events or by contcating us through email or via the telephone. In addition to workshops on Industrial Symbiosis, the programme delivers free advice on a number of other areas including corporate and business management, greening the office, savings on raw material production, environmental management and life cycle analysis. During the workshops, the participating companies inform the programme of resources they have and want which produce opportunities to explore.

Potential synergies are identified which will require further work to complete. The identified resources are recorded in a programme management database, meaning that synergies can be identified that fit the material offered in the workshop.

The project is funded by the European Union LIFE+ programme.

Its total budget is 793 485 EUR.

The project is built up of the following activities:

Action 1 - Project management

Project implementation, reporting, administration and coordination activities.

Action 2 - Monitoring and effectiveness evaluation

The project activity is monitored along its implementation and in terms of implementation outcomes.

Action 3 - External audit/ External verification training

A qualified/certified external auditor will perform the project audit at the end of the project and it will be submitted together with the final report of the project.

Action 4 - Launch event - Introductory Quick Win Workshop

An Introductory Quick Win Workshop/Seminar, a project launch event is organized at regional level in Hungary at an early stage of the project's implementation.

Action 5 - Communication and dissemnation actions at project start

A LIFE+ Project Poster is designed and disseminated in order to provide basic information about the project.

Action 6 - Identification of possible focal points

The identification is carried out by contacting directly the industrial operators. Preliminary Questionnaires are developed in order to gather information regarding the potential for the development of IS partnership with other units.

Action 7 - Interactive selection of focal points

A careful selection is done by scrutinizing the potential of different industries next to the commitment at the top unit level.

Action 8 - Training on industrial ecosystems and climate change

A training session is organised for the IFKA experts as a "train the trainers" session.

Action 9 - In-country site visit to the project focal points

ISL pays a visit to the interacting focal points.

Action 10 - Dissemination of interim results at regional level

A one-day seminar is organised and held in Budapest after the training session and interactive unit selection.

Action 11 - Participation at international events dedicated to ETAP and industrial symbiosis

At least one expert representing IFKA participates at the Environmental Technology Action Plan (ETAP)/IS international events.

Action 12 - Identification and characterisation of entities capable to be inter-connected

Detailed mapping of the selected wastes and their potential beneficiaries are developed and analyzed.

Action 13 - Integration of different instruments for sustainability tailored to industry and local specifics

More effective sustainability instruments are tailored and implemented at the participating enterprise level. These include principles of CPA, EMA and SES.

Action 14 - Technical visit of selected industries and experts to relevant sites in the UK

A group of representatives of Hungarian enterprises and experts pay a visit to the selected sites that successfully participated at NISP project in UK.

Action 15 - Networking to seek synergy with other projects/initiatives

A continuous survey is carried out so that the synery between the LIFE+ project under execution and other national and international projects focused on sustainable consumption and production is exploited.

Action 16 - Pre-feasibility analysis of identified flows to be inter-connected

A detailed analysis of technical, financial and environmental pre-feasibility for the proposed inter-connected flows is developed.

Action 17 - Developing an up-gradable information system easy to be accessed at regional and national level

The ISIM-TCC website developed within the Action 5 is re-designed in such a way that the project outcomes/relevant information are added as they are concluded and the stakeholder feedback can be received.

Action 18 - Final workshop and other dissemination actions (layman's report, workshop, brochure, technical publications)

Technical articles are prepared and published by every participating beneficiary. A Final Workshop is organized by the time of the project completion, at regional level.

Action 19 - Post project dissemination for replicating IS in other regions

More workshops are organised in other regions in Hungary, following the analysis for IS project replication potential.

Action 20 - After-LIFE communication plan

The After-LIFE communication plan is produced as a separate chapter of the final report.

Az ISIM-TCC projekt az Európai Bizottság LIFE+ kiírásában elnyert forrás segítségével kerül megvalásításra.
